The Beiar River is well known for large salmon and it is not unusual to see a number of 12-15 kilos (26-30 pounds) catches during the season. The river also boasts a high number of good sized sea trout during the latter end of July and August. It is considered to be among the three best salmon and sea trout rivers in the country.  It is one of the few rivers in Norway that encourage catch and release. The prime time is considered to be 15 June - 31 August with the best salmon fishing normally during July, and August rated best for sea trout. The beats are situated 8-12 kilometres (5-7 miles) from the river mouth.
